King crab (centolla)

The Patagonian King Crab (centolla), also called magellanica, southern king crab, and Chilean king crab, is a crustacean that inhabits the seabed of the cold waters of southern South America.

Our itinerary

day 1

We begin our adventure heading north of the island on National Route 3. We see the most popular ski center in the area, Cerro Castor, cross the Andes and start the true 4x4 adventure! We cross huge mud and water roads until we reach the imposing coast of Lake Fagnano. At this point, our passengers take a moment to contemplate this extraordinary place and its particular energy. Then we open trails giving more adrenaline to our trip. We enter the forest to walk through an exclusive area, reaching Lake Escondido where our refuge is located. At this point, our team awaits passengers with an Argentine barbecue made with coals of lenga and guindo, both trees of the region, with the particularity of its aroma and of course accompanied with Patagonian Malbec wine. Finally, we went on a canoe tour with first-line equipment to explore Lake Escondido (this can be suspended due to weather and safety issues). From here we head back to the National Route towards the small town of Tolhuin where we will stay at the Kaiken Lodge on the coast of Lake Fagnano. In the evening we will taste a trout dish from the lake prepared in the kitchen of the lodge

day 2

The next day and after breakfast, we prepare to go to a special area, because each land has its own secrets, but not everyone is chosen to know them. Around noon we arrive at Provincial Route “A”, where we take a gravel road to the Atlantic Ocean and Cabo San Pablo. At this point, we walk to an isolated mountain with an abandoned lighthouse on its summit. From up there, our passengers can appreciate "The Desdemona", a ship stranded for almost 40 years that invites us to navigate through time. For lunch we will offer you some of the fish caught by sinners who work in the vicinity of the boat (bass or wild salmon) in an authentic fisherman's house. After exploring this mysterious giant and having lunch, we go to Estancia Rolito, a charming country house that preserves the spirit of family entrepreneurship based on the sheep tradition and is a pioneer in opening its barrier to rural tourism. Right there, at night we will taste the lamb they raise, giving this experience an extraordinary closure.

day 3

After breakfast, we straighten our way to return to Ushuaia, but first we will crown this gastronomic experience in the best way: we start heading to National Route 3 back to the South until its intersection with Route "J", taking a gravel road through a dense native forest. When we reach the coast, we take the East direction and start walking through the forest to a hectic waterfall. Back in the vehicle, we take our passengers to Puerto Almanza, the southernmost fishing port in Argentina. From there, we take another gravel road for about 15km until we reach a small adorable fishing village where our guests will have one of their best and unforgettable fishing experiences. A local family receives us and they invite us to get on a boat, with which we will go to look for the traps and take out big crab. Here almost the entire population is engaged in artisanal fishing, extracting crab, crab, mussels, cholgas and other typical mollusks from this area. Upon returning home, the hosts teach to prepare Patagonian-style crab, cooked with seawater.
