Everything you need to bring for the 9-day Andes Horseback Expedition. Pack smart — the Cordillera rewards preparation.
Clothing & Insulation
✓Sleeping bag – down or Thinsulate rated to -15°C (5°F)
✓Warm jacket, preferably waterproof
✓Windbreaker jacket
✓Thermal underwear or leggings
✓Shirts and sweaters (wool or synthetic)
✓Loose-fitting pants suitable for riding
✓Balaclava or wool hat
✓Warm gloves and/or riding/work gloves
✓Neck scarf or neck warmer
Headwear & Sun Protection
✓Wide-brim hat (fabric or felt — essential at altitude)
✓Sunglasses (UV400 or polarized)
✓Sunscreen SPF 50+ suitable for your skin type
✓Lip balm with sun protection
✓Moisturizing cream (altitude dries skin rapidly)
Footwear
✓Sturdy boots, ankle or mid-height, comfortable for riding
✓Several pairs of socks (merino wool recommended)
✓Camp sandals or lightweight shoes for evening at base camp
Hygiene & Health
✓Personal hygiene items (travel-size)
✓Disposable wet wipes — multiple packs
✓Personal first-aid kit with any required personal medications
✓Prescribed medications clearly labeled
Equipment & Documents
✓Headlamp or flashlight with spare batteries
✓Personal water bottle or insulated canteen (1.5L minimum)
✓Camera with fully charged batteries and power bank
✓Zip-lock bags for documents, phone, camera
✓National ID card or Passport (mandatory for Gendarmerie checkpoints)

All expedition equipment — horses/mules, saddles, saddlebags, group camping gear, pre-assembled tents, cooking equipment, trail meals, camp dinners, drinking water, and all safety equipment (VHF radio, satellite phone, first-aid kit) — is provided. This list covers personal gear only.
⚠️ Mandatory: Travel Documents
You must carry your National ID card or valid Passport at all times. National Gendarmerie control checkpoints are located along the route and ID verification may be required.
