Overview
Villarrica (2,847 m) towers over Pucón and is one of the few volcanoes on Earth with a lava lake inside its crater. The ascent climbs snow and ice slopes with crampons and ice axe for five to six hours, with views over a chain of volcanoes and lakes.
At the rim you may hear the lava and smell the sulphur. The descent is the fun part: sliding down prepared snow chutes on a protective seat.
