Overview

With more than 300 cloudless nights a year and almost no light pollution, the Atacama is home to the world's major observatories. On this evening session an astronomer guides you through the southern constellations with the naked eye and laser pointer, then through large telescopes aimed at nebulae, star clusters and Saturn's rings.

The tour also covers how Andean peoples read the dark constellations of the Milky Way. Hot chocolate and blankets keep the desert chill away.
