Overview
The trail to Chirripó gains over 2,200 metres from the village of San Gerardo, passing from cloud forest to the windswept páramo. You spend the night at Crestones base lodge, then leave in darkness for the summit.
On clear mornings the sunrise reveals the Pacific and the Caribbean at the same time, along with glacial lakes left from the last ice age. The descent returns by the same trail the same day.
