Overview
A boat carries you across Lake Grey, weaving between floating icebergs, to the western edge of the Grey Glacier. There you gear up with harness and crampons and spend around two hours walking among crevasses, ice towers and deep blue meltwater channels.
Guides teach basic crampon technique first, so no previous ice experience is needed. The return crossing offers one last look at the 30-metre ice wall.
