Overview

Every summer, hundreds of whale sharks gather off the north tip of the Yucatán to feed on plankton blooms. Small licensed boats leave Holbox at dawn and, once a shark is spotted, two swimmers and a guide slip in at a time.

You swim alongside animals up to 12 metres long as they glide past with open mouths. The return includes a stop at Isla Pasión for a ceviche lunch and a swim in calm water.
