Overview

In the pine and oak forests north of Oaxaca, a group of Zapotec villages manages its own land and trail network. You walk from village to village along ancient paths at 2,500–3,000 metres, guided by local community members.

Each night you stay in community cabins, share meals of handmade tortillas and mole, and learn how communal land ownership has protected one of Mexico's most biodiverse forests.
