Overview
Chachani rises to 6,075 m just north of Arequipa, and a 4x4 track to almost 5,000 m makes it one of the easiest ways to stand above 6,000 m. After a short walk to base camp you rest, eat and sleep early.
The summit push starts around 1 am, zigzagging up rocky ridges and, in some seasons, short snow sections where crampons are used. Guides set the pace and carry emergency oxygen.
