Overview

El Misti watches over Arequipa as an almost symmetrical cone, and its summit is reachable without technical climbing. On day one you hike to high camp at about 4,600 m and watch the city lights come on below.

A midnight start brings you to the crater by sunrise, where fumaroles still steam and the view sweeps across Chachani, Pichu Pichu and the altiplano. The descent runs down soft volcanic scree back to the vehicle.
